HALLOWEEN COUNTDOWN: SKELETON #13

Era: 2000s
Glow-in-the-Dark?: No
Place of Origin: Bag of party favors
Rib Count: 20
Celebrity Look-alike: At the request of this skeleton I shan't compare him to a celebrity.
Description: This novelty skeleton, rest his soul, bears a message of hope for all of us living in these topsy-turvy times. Read it loud and clear..the Skeleton Making Powers that be still have what it takes to make a proper rubber skeleton! Take comfort in the fact that some things never change. He's only a year old but he's the real deal.. tried and true.. time tested. Even in your gigabitten ipod world with your MTV video games and your myspace races there's still room for a classic, darn it!
He's basic white, he's rubber, he's got two eyes, arms and legs, and a hangin' hoop.. and he dangles, by golly he can dangle with the best of them. And nobody can take that away! Not the shifty-eyed politicians or the back-stabbing attorneys or the corporate fat cats. He may not be "fancy" and he may not be "politically correct" or even "pleasant to look at" but he's the one that will take you out for a game of pool the day after that so-called "skeleton of your dreams" has left you high and dry. Take him or leave him, love him or leave him, what you see is what you get, see my pinkie boy you're stinky. And if you don't like it you'll have to pry this cold rubber skeleton out of my cold dead skeleton hands!
Additional Info: Don't get me started.
Cause of Death: Martyrdom
Rating: 7.8

It's funny, but after taking all these guys (and gals?) in I can't help but notice that I have a distinct preference for skeletons with fully formed hollow rib cages instead of the ones where it's molded into one solid piece.

I never thought I'd have a preference...

You clearly have a deep and emotional attachment to this skeleton. I wouldn't mind hearing the history of this. Of course, if you don't want to talk about it, that's ok.

smurf- that's interesting. I'd never thought of it either, but I went back and compared and I'm definitely with you on the fully rendered ribs. they can really make the skeleton.

gugon- ha. I just thought it would be fun(ny) to talk up a really crappy looking skeleton and make it seem as though it has some importance. (Though I do like the fact that he has a "classic" crappyness) His boring "story" is that a couple years ago we bought a bag of assorted goodies for a halloween party and several of his kind were in it. I hope you're not too let down :)

This guy looks like one of his parents was a rubber chicken.

These are MY skeletons! I never thought you'd do them -- there are so many rubber skeletons I didn't figure you'd have one of these.

I had five of these when I was growing up. Your picture is absolutely identical to my skeletons -- I'd recognize them anywhere. Of course it helps that I still have my five and still take them out for Halloween!

Around here their companions are five small, floppy black rubber bats with built-in nonfunctional suction cups on their stomachs. Probably we just got them around the same time though, I don't think they were part of a package.

My five must have been made in the late 1980s or maybe early 1990s. Somewhere there's a mold that's been working overtime for quite awhile!

I haven't seen these in stores...by any chance, do you remember where you found this one? My five might need some new friends.

flashfink, oh yea, he's got some serious rubber chicken DNA in him.
The floppiest of the whole bunch.

anonymous, I'm glad to hear that this skeleton has a true fan out there. And that your skeleton(s) was represented in the countdown.

I'm pretty sure this one just came from Wal-Mart. There were four in the bag we got. (though I don't know if they have the same assortment this year)

Just fyi, Kirk (same anonymous), the floppiness of these skeletons make them great slingshots if you can put the elastic around one finger and pull the skeleton back with the other hand.

These skeletons...the rings for the elastic tend to break pretty easily.
