APRIL OF FOOLS: THE OUT-HOUSE

There are two basic types of pranks. There's the kind that attempts to seamlessly blend in with the environment, then there's the kind that lures its potential victims with that which is purely unusual. Unfortunately, the latter creates a world laden with small plastic outhouses populated by urinating simpletons.

Oh yeah. I think I've heard of these before...

I remember seeing these at several parties my parents attended when I was a kid. Seemed like one of those "adults-only" type deals. This, and the "pet hornytoad." (Use your imagination on that one.) In a thousand years an archaeologist will dig one of these up and conclude that having a hillbilly pee on you was something we held in high regard.

The level of concern I have for this gag is epic. From the anatomy to the method of water insertion (oh God, please let that be water).

I get it now......fill er up, then open the door on the guy and he "happily" turns to see who it is, unleashing a yellowstone geyser on you...right?

That's kind of like the "Laffun" head: when you pull his/her/its tie, it shoots a stream of water at you, a lo-fi laugh track is unleashed, and its tongue goes in and out (you can hear the laugh at the end of the tune "Easy Money" on King Crimson's "Lark's Tongues in Aspic").

The Laffun head gag is pulled on Sissy Spacek's character in "Three Women".

Jody- I wish I could have gone to a party in the 70s or 80s where a peeing hillbilly boy was brought out ceremoniously. This is the sort of sophisticated adult entertainment that I looked forward to as a child.

Pearl- I like that you have epic levels of concern for a gag

Tulsa TV- Well done on the Laffun head reference. I remember them well. I was always fascinated yet repulsed by them. And a bit scared. I'm glad to hear they were immortalized in Three Women. Great piece of trivia!

My grandparents had this when I was a kid and I loved it.

I sought for one when traveling in the south after I was first married in 87. I would scourer the trinket shops in search of the hillbilly in the out house.

I finally found one!

Mine is a little different and did not stand up to much use. He is now stuck in a 3/4 turn position.

I would love to have a working one on my desk now. I really need to fix it since I have never found another one but I do still look for them.

My Mom use to have this exact one in the 1970's. Please tell me where I can purchase this item. My sisters and I charged a dime to let the other kids open it so he cab squirt on them. Too funny!

Brian- Glad you found one of these! (my enthusiasm is three years late)

Anonymous- These are on ebay all the time. There's on for eight bucks right now, just search for novelty out house. Good luck!
